Central Excise Officers in trouble for demanding bribe of Rs 50 Lakh

AIT News Network

RAJKOT. A Criminal Complaint by the owner of an EOU(Export Oriented Unit) based in Jamnagar has been taken cognizance of, by the City Court. The complainant has alleged that 11 Central Excise Preventive Officers including Joint Commissioner of Central Excise, Rajkot Vinay Kumar visited his Unit and conducted an excise raid without any search warrant and threatened to implicate him in excise duty evasion case if he did not pay bribe of Rs 50 Lakh to them.

  • The Court has asked the Police to investigate the charges against the Officers within the time frame of 30 days.

  • Bhavin Impex owned by Sanjay Sayani has also filed a suit for defamation and has  claimed Rs 5 Crore from the Officers for defamation and harassment. It has also been alleged that the Owner of EOU was also beaten by the Officers.

  • The complaints of harassment by the Excise Officers are common at the time of visit to Industry and they have an ulterior motive that if you harass more you can squeeze more. It would be better if Excise Officials start behaving themselves otherwise  they face not only such cases being slapped in court as well as in National Human Rights Commission.

  • Blue eyed Boys of Senior Officers are handpicked for posting in Preventive Branch of the Excise Department. Once posted many of these Officers want to hit sixer on every bowl as if they have to play a Twenty Twenty match as the tenure of Officers is very short. With April being a transfer season; every Officer tries his best to score a century before he is out of the team.
